Personal Information may be collected by ALC when website visitors complete one of our online forms (examples include newsletter subscriptions or contact forms). The following list includes ways we generally collect Personal Information from our website visitors and the types of Personal Information generally collected:
You may find numerous forms throughout our site to help you evaluate or engage our services and ask questions. Required Personal Information varies depending on the form and at most includes full name and email address. The provision of this Personal Information is mandatory in order to receive a response from ALC. The provision of the remaining Personal Information requested on the registration form is optional. The same is true for any online newsletters or other types of regular electronic updates we may offer to website visitors.
If you provide a false name or email, you may not receive a response to your inquiry or your request may not be processed. However, any Personal Information you provide in other fields may be used to help solve issues that exist. For example, if you have Personal Information that you would like to relay to someone at ALC but do not accurately identify yourself, you may include the Personal Information in the comments section of the form. That Personal Information will be sent to the appropriate person who can help resolve the issue regardless of whether or not we are able to send a response to you. The same is true for anyone who enters an email address, phone number, or other form of contact information incorrectly. We are not responsible for a failure to respond to someone who has submitted inaccurate or invalid contact information.
From time to time, we may also collect Personal Information that pertains to you indirectly through other sources, such as list vendors. When we do so, we ask the vendors to confirm that the Personal Information was legally acquired by the third-party and that we have the right to obtain it from them and use it.
The Personal Information that we collect, either directly or indirectly, may be combined to help us improve its overall accuracy and completeness and to help us better tailor our interactions with you.
We may also collect Personal Information relating to your use of our websites through the use of various technologies. For example, when you visit our websites, we may log certain Personal Information that your browser sends us, such as your IP address, browser type and language, access time, and referring website addresses. We may also collect Personal Information about the pages you view within our sites and other actions you take while visiting us. In addition, we may also use such technologies to determine whether you’ve opened an email or clicked on a link contained in an email. Collecting Personal Information about how you use our websites helps us personalize your future experiences on our websites, as well as tailor our interactions with you.
One technology we use to collect Personal Information is called “cookies”. A cookie is a piece of data that a website sends to your browser. The data is stored on your computer as a tag that identifies your computer. Cookies are used mainly to measure website usage and effectiveness and to allow for ease of navigation or use. As such, they are not associated with any Personal Information.
Cookies are also used at times to personalize a known visitor’s experience to a website by being associated with profile information or user preferences. As described below, you can adjust your browser settings in most instances to turn off cookies or to notify you before you receive a cookie, giving you the chance to decide whether to accept it or not. Since cookies allow you to take advantage of some of our websites’ features, we recommend that you leave them turned on.
If you choose to use the “Send to a Friend” function to share website information with a friend or colleague, we will ask for their name and email address. We will automatically send a one-time email sharing the page you indicated, but will not use that Personal Information for other purposes.
The following paragraphs describe the general purposes for which ALC uses and discloses your Personal Information:
If you request something from ALC, for example, information about a community, a callback, or specific marketing materials, we may use the Personal Information you provide to fulfill your request. To help us do this, we may share Personal Information with others, for instance, a specific ALC community or regional staff member who can best handle the request. In connection with a transaction, we may also contact you as part of our customer satisfaction surveys or for market research purposes.
We may use Personal Information we collect about you to provide you with a personalized experience on our websites, such as providing you with content that may interest you and making navigation on our sites easier.
The Personal Information you provide to ALC as well as the Personal Information we have collected about you indirectly, may be used by ALC for ALC’s marketing purposes. We may provide the Personal Information to third parties who may assist ALC in contacting you with special offers or information that we believe may be of interest to you about ALC’s services, programs, or events. You may at any time choose not to receive marketing materials from us by following the unsubscribe instructions included in each email you may receive, by indicating that you wish to unsubscribe when we call you, or by contacting us directly (please refer to “Opt-Out Procedures” below).
In connection with a job application or inquiry, whether advertised on an ALC website or otherwise, you may provide us with Personal Information about yourself, such as a résumé. We may use this Personal Information to address your inquiry or consider you for employment purposes. Unless you tell us not to do so, we may keep the Personal Information for future consideration.
ALC is strongly opposed to spam. We will only send email to users that have explicitly requested to receive an email from us, such as “opt-in subscribers” to ALC online newsletters or users who complete a contact form.
You can always choose not to provide Personal Information, although it might be needed to submit an inquiry or place a request. If you place a request and do not provide the necessary Personal Information to contact you, your request may not be fulfilled.
When we collect Personal Information from you, you may tell us that you do not want it used for further marketing contact by using the Opt-Out Procedures below.
Certain online transactions may involve you calling us or us calling you. They may also involve online chats. Please be aware that ALC may monitor and in some cases record such interactions for staff training or quality assurance purposes, or to document a particular transaction or interaction.
In the event that our business is transferred to or merged with another company or entity, your Personal Information may be transferred to another company or entity that is part of the business transfer or merger.
We may also use or share your Personal Information to protect the rights or property of ALC, our business partners, clients, or others when we have reasonable grounds to believe that such rights or property have been or could be affected. In addition, we reserve the right to disclose your Personal Information as required by law and when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights or the rights of others, or to comply with a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process served on our websites.
